The Imus Conundrum

I'm a bit puzzled here. So, can you help a brother out? It seems that, yet again, a shock jock, Don Imus, has managed to let his true feelings (or perhaps not) be known. During one of his segments, he referred to the players on the Rutgers University lady’s basketball team as “nappy-headed ho’s”. Now, to say the least, I am miffed by this absurd remark. I’m not a fan of this dolt and find his type of show rather ridiculous. But, what I find even more telling is the hypocritical response coming from the Black community. Please, don’t get me wrong; I’m not defending Imus. I’m merely outraged that, on a daily basis, BET runs videos that perform a far worse hatchet job on our women than anything Imus could have said. Yet, we’re all strangely silent on the matter. Essence magazine is also guilty of this same kind of assault, though, their remarks are far more insidious and damaging. They transform destructive and immoral behavior into the realm of "normal". Again, Imus hasn't done anything to this extent. Yet there’s not even a blip on the national PC radar. Misogyny is at the heart of Hip Hop and serves as its foundation, in my opinion. Yet, not an eyebrow is raised when our women are referred to as bitches, ho’s and a vast assortment of monikers I couldn’t even begin to fathom. I’m really confused as to the hypocrisy here. Maybe you can explain it to the rest of us. I'm done.
